Aggressive bidding skyrocketed the auction price as a bidding war broke out between phone bidders while others bid through the internet on Heritage LIVE!.
Bidding opened Saturday afternoon at $240,000. But befitting an instrument used by the Rocket Man, it quickly took off from there. The piano set an auction house record as the most expensive musical instrument Heritage has ever sold. ....

The Steinway piano Elton John used during his Dodger Stadium and Live Aid shows has sold at auction for $US915,000 ($AUD1,236,000).
Elton played two sold-out Dodger Stadium shows in Los Angeles in 1975 in front of over 100,000 people including his parents. This was the piano he played at Madison Square Garden when John Lennon joined him for three songs ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ and ‘Whatever Gets You Thru The Night’. It was Lennon’s last ever performance.
The piano was used by another Beatle when Paul McCartney used it to perform ‘Let It Be’ at Live Aid. ....

A Canadian man with a special connection to Joey Moss has created a unique tribute to the Edmonton legend.
Curtis Schwartz was commissioned by the Edmonton Oilers to paint a goalie mask to honour the late locker room attendant.
“I was very happy with it, very happy,” Schwartz told CTV News Edmonton.
“It’s to commemorate a man that was an amazing individual, so you want to make sure it’s the best possible product that I ever put out.”
The Swift Current, Sask. man is the cousin of Oilers goalie coach Dustin Schwartz, and he’s also the father of a young son with Down syndrome. ....
