Kirkby Lonsdale Community Interest Company is working with visual arts organisation, Green Close, to launch free art and wellbeing taster workshops in the town this week. The Phoenix Rising programme is one of only 37 organisations nationally to have received a Thriving Communities grant from the National Academy for Social Prescribing, Arts Council England, Natural England and Historic England. And the initiative will give residents the opportunity to socialise and recharge in a safe creative space as lockdown restrictions ease. The art tasters will take place online at first, starting with the four-week photography workshop Gratitude Gallery on April 30 and a two-week map-making workshop Myths & Legends on May 2.

A CUMBRIAN town reached international audiences when it live streamed its Christmas decorations. Last Friday, Kirkby Lonsdale’s decorations and Christmas windows were live streamed over Facebook during a late-night shopping event. Kirkby Lonsdale Community Interest Company (Kirkby Lonsdale CIC) organised the virtual event which entertained audiences across Britain, Europe and even Australia with a live ‘Christmas Window Walk’ and commentary. Viewers were excited to soak up the Christmas atmosphere despite Covid-19 stopping them from doing their Christmas shopping or returning home to see their families for the festive season The livestream also gave viewers a chance to decide on their favourite Christmas display and vote in the Christmas Window Competition – the winner is being announced during on December 18.

CELEBRATING: Carnforth Town comes together to decorate their town as Christmas approaches Kirkby Lonsdale and Carnforth have covered their town with Christmas lights to bring in the spirit of the season this year. ‘The Carnforth Steps into the Light’ project was born out of the town’s partnership with Carnforth Business Network (CBN) and supported by a successful bid for funding with Lancaster City Council. CELEBRATING: Carnforth Town comes together to decorate their town as Christmas approaches The CBN, installed lighting in the War Memorial Gardens, along Market Street, New Street and parts of Lancaster Road and Scotland Road. The Morrisons of Morecambe donated a Christmas tree that now stands in the War Memorial Gardens.
