Bolton church warden named lockdown hero in nationwide competition


A GENEROUS church warden and retired teacher has won a national competition after going above and beyond for residents in Egerton.
Dawn Hitchen, an authorised lay minister at Christ Church Walmsley, was nominated for the Friendly Faces competition, led by window company Safestyle and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a movement tackling suicide.
Rev Carol Hayden put Dawn forward for all her hard work this year, which included organising transport for hospital appointments and ringing up isolating parishioners.
She was named as one of the three winners from across the country.
Dawn, who taught French and music at Walmsley school for 20 years before retiring in 2017, said: It was a humbling and proud moment when I found out, if I can say those in the same sentence. ....
