2 South Carolina college students killed in bridge crash May 4, 2021 GMT BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) Two of three people killed when a pickup truck and a sedan crashed on a bridge over a body of water were students at South Carolina colleges, according to school officials. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the victims Saturday as Tyler Cameron Carroll, 23, of Ridgeland; Jonathan Green, 27, of Hardeeville and Jordan Amari Johnson, 21, of Ridgeland. Green, who was driving the sedan, was studying information science at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, university spokeswoman Carol Weir told The Island Packet. Johnson was in the sedan’s back seat. She was a student at Converse College in Spartanburg, according to Converse spokeswoman Holly Duncan. ....

USCB students return to campus, receive COVID-19 tests Bluffton Today A long line of University of South Carolina Beaufort students snaked down the sidewalk outside USCB’s recreation center in Bluffton last Sunday as students waited to be tested for COVID-19 before moving back into residence halls from a long winter break. On Friday, the university’s online dashboard reported 664 students and faculty tested since Jan. 6, 15 new cases of COVID-19 and 50 more test results pending. The dashboard said Friday the university had a COVID-19 alert score of .83, a figure the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control classifies as a low risk level albeit on the high end of the classification. Moderate risk is 1 to 1.9. ....
USCB students to return to campus Jan. 12 Bluffton Today The University of South Carolina Beaufort’s remote exam period ended Monday for students, who have been off campus since classes ended for Thanksgiving break and are scheduled to return before the first day of spring classes Jan. 12. In-person classes convened Aug. 20 for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic halted the 2020 spring semester, with on-campus students required to receive COVID-19 testing prior to move-in. The university’s schedule for the fall has stayed on track since that time, as students left campus by Nov. 24, participated in remote classes and reading days from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, and took exams Dec. 7-14. ....
