GUARDIAN readers have responded with overwhelming positivity to our story about the ongoing transformation of the open air swimming pool in Marbury. The volunteer-run, not for profit Marbury Swimming Club, based at the outdoor pool are looking to reopen the facility next month, after having had to close last summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. New members are being encouraged to join the club and the pool is taking swim bookings now, from community groups including scouts, cubs and beavers. There has also been interest from some triathlon groups in the area looking to hone their swim sections and use the facilities to get race-ready. ....
A COMMUNITY group that has been battling for more than a decade to buy a village pub is celebrating a sale agreement finally being reached. The Skeeby Community Pub Society has fought a lengthy battle to retain the Travellers Rest in Skeeby for the community after it was closed in 2008 and plans were put forward to convert it into housing in 2010. Since then, the Society has fought off further planning applications and appeals in its determined bid to buy and renovate the pub and keep it as a community-run asset. Their fight won the backing of local MP Rishi Sunak and Richmondshire District Council which has pledged £50,000 to the scheme. ....
