You couldn t get a finer tradition than the Portland Fair.
The popular fair had been held every autumn for more than 200 years, traditionally the weekend nearest to November 5.
It was always recognised as a place where old friends from different parts of the island would meet up - people would even meet their future spouses at the fair!
