A Manning man has been ordered to serve up to 10 years in prison on an April lascivious acts with a child conviction after violating the terms of his probation. According to Carroll County District Court records, 20-year-old Michael John William Lyons’ probation was revoked following a hearing on Friday. A Department of Correctional Services report shows Lyons was arrested on April 21 for failing to properly register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, just over two weeks after his April 5 conviction. Lyons’ 10-year sentence on the class C felony charge will be served concurrently with two five-year sentences handed down in 2018 after he pled guilty to first-degree and second-degree thefts in Audubon and Mills Counties. Lyons was arrested in June 2020 after a Carroll Police Department investigation determined he had engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old female victim between April 15 and May 31 of last year. ....

Bond has been set at $25,000 for a Carroll man who faces felony drug charges in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 56-year-old Michael Ohara Sherrod made his initial appearance Monday for controlled substance violations, a class B felony, possession of contraband in a correctional institution, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from a March 21 arrest by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities say they located 18.5 grams of methamphetamine in individually wrapped packages and other narcotics on his person while Sherrod was being taken into custody on outstanding warrants from a previous encounter with law enforcement. The drugs were found after Sherrod had entered the jail, resulting in the additional charges. As of Thursday afternoon, Sherrod remained in custody at the Carroll County jail. A Des Moines man originally charged in Carroll County District Court with drug trafficking was sentenced to three years in prison last week. According to trial information filed in April, 25-year-old Taylor John Kramer, formerly of Carroll, initially faced one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class B felony, and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony. As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Kramer pled guilty to reduced misdemeanor charges. He was sentenced to two years in prison on the methamphetamine charge and one year for the marijuana charge with the sentences to be served consecutively. The charges stemmed from a Feb. 26 traffic stop by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities say Kramer was found with approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, seven grams of marijuana, baggies, a scale and cash. ....
