OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - One of the top leaders of the restaurant industry in Florida is speaking about employment opportunities in our area. Our friends at the Ocala Chamber and Economic Partnership say there are plenty of restaurant jobs available in North Central Florida.
Carol Dover is the CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, which represents a $112B annual industry in the state.
Dover worked closely with the state on the alcohol-to-go legislation sponsored by North Central Florida Senator Jennifer Bradley that allowed restaurants to provide cocktails for customers. ....

Florida plans to stop providing $300 a week in additional federal unemployment benefits as it pushes for people to return to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced Monday that starting June 26 the state will no longer participate in the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program. State and business officials have argued that, when added to state unemployment payments, the $300 a week in federal aid is keeping people from returning to jobs.
After a report Friday showed that an estimated 487,000 Floridians were unemployed in April out of a workforce of 10.24 million, the Department of Economic Opportunity called Monday’s move another key step to returning more Floridians to work, dubbing it the Return to Work initiative. ....

Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Announces Florida’s Withdrawal from Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced another key step to returning more Floridians to work, following April’s labor statistics which show total private-sector employment increased by 18,800 jobs and more than 460,000 online job postings available throughout the state for job seekers. Florida will end its participation in the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program, the $300 per week supplemental FPUC payment, effective June 26, 2021, as part of DEO’s ‘Return to Work’ initiative.
Note that the additional federal Reemployment Assistance benefit programs, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), and Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC), will continue for the time ....
