Velda Caroline Neville entered into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ on April 21, 2021, at the age of 98. For the past twenty-four years, she was an active member of Faith Reformed Church.
On a cold winter day, January 22, 1923, in East Jordan, MI, Velda Caroline Payne (Vel) was the fourth of seven children born to Burdette and Myrtle Payne.
Her fondest memories were of living on a sheep ranch on Lynn Lake in Gaylord, MI. At the age of 12, her family moved not far from the ranch to a farm overlooking a valley. Life on the farm included many chores such as weeding the garden, feeding the chickens, and harvesting fruits and vegetables to help sustain their family through many lean years.

Budding Hawke s Bay entrepreneurs have the chance to shape their business ideas with an open invitation to Hastings PopUp Business School this May.
The PopUp will be open from May 3, with 10 days of free learning for anyone in the region who has a business proposal.
Business Hawke s Bay has partnered with Hastings District Council, Napier City Council and Ministry of Social Development to bring the PopUp Business School Aotearoa to Hawke s Bay as part of its economic and social development initiatives.

Hawke s Bay s economy looked to be charting a more optimistic path with actual GDP growth in 2020. But, 2021 is already looking more pessimistic following the cancellations of two of the region s biggest events, the Art Deco Festival and Horse of the Year.
Last year, despite Covid-19 s impact and an alert level 4 lockdown Hawke s Bay managed to regain all its lost ground and return a growth.

Hawke s Bay equestrian businesses say the cancellation of this year s Land Rover Horse of the Year will hurt their finances for months to come.
After 48 hours of discussions, the event s board of directors announced the cancellation of the 2021 event due to Covid-19 uncertainty.
New Zealand s premier equestrian event, which was due to take place at Showgrounds Hawke s Bay Tomoana from March 9 to 14, attracts over 45,000 spectators, 1900 horses and 1500 riders.
