She told the host: “I didn’t want to let go of that marriage. You have someone that your working with, that your compatible with.

She said: “It was me who instigated everything and ended the marriage but I also had a lot of things that I had to deal with, personally.
“So it wasn’t just because I fell out of love with him or I wanted to do other things, it was because I was carrying a lot of emotional things from when I was a kid and things I hadn’t dealt with.
“I think that all snowballed into this big. I felt like I was carrying around this tumour around my back that I hadn’t dealt with.”

Karen Hauer breaks down as she admits pet dog was her 'saviour' after Kevin Clifton split

Karen admitted that it was her rescue dog that got her out of bed in the morning and helped her to heal.
She said there were a couple of weeks following their split which were particularly “dark,” but knowing that she needed to care for her pet made her get up and leave the house.
The emotional BBC star sounded like she was in tears as she recalled that difficult period.
She said that Betty was her “saviour”.
