Dr Christopher Tufton (File photo) Amid criticisms that COVID-19 testing has slowed in recent days, Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, has hit back by suggesting that testing does not prevent people from contracting of the virus. Rather, he said, the focus should now be centred around observing the COVID-19 prevention protocols, and getting vaccinated when the opportunity arises. Speaking at last week’s Joint Select Committee meeting on the COVID-19 pandemic, Tufton explained that beyond certain point you really are testing with the same results, because that s the way the statistical modelling works. I do agree that there is a level (of testing) at which you should not go below, but there are optimal levels and there are levels at which diminishing return sets in unless your objective is to test to determine infection as opposed to prevention of the infection, he stated. ....
