A newborn orca calf spotted playing with its pod in the North Seas off Moray Firth, near Duncansby Head, Caithness.Experts have confirmed two British killer whales which appeared off Cornwall were the most southerly ever recorded in 50 years of observations.
Nine days later the pair were seen back in the Hebrides.
Then, the following day, they were spotted by a research vessel in the waters off Lochboisdale, Scotland.
Multiple organisations confirmed this is the first sighting of this famous pair of killer whales off England

The average Briton’s closest encounter with an orca might once have been through the film Free Willy.
But the majestic killer whale is increasingly being spotted in the UK, with a major citizen science project identifying three new “pods” that are present near the north coast of Scotland year-round.
The orcas are thought to be living off the area’s healthy seal population, with a Scottish government study launched to examine their diets and movement patterns.
PhD student Julia Sutherland, of the University of St Andrews, began her work last September and will spend four years examining the orcas’ habits. ....

Orca enthusiast captures incredible photo of a rare newborn calf off the coast of Scotland


A lucky orca enthusiast has captured some incredible photos of a newborn calf swimming with its mother off the coast of Scotland.  
The orange-tinted baby was accompanied by four older killer whales as it played in the Moray Firth, near Duncansbayhead, Caithness.
Wildlife enthusiast Karen Munro, 44, travels around Scotland from her home in Thurso, Highlands, hoping to catch sight of the astonishing creatures.
She couldn t believe her eyes on Sunday (May 9) when they came between 10 and 20 metres of where she was standing.

Wildlife lovers will be able to keep tabs on an orca calf after it was officially identified as part of an elusive pod.
Experts have been keeping an eye out for the calf, which they now know is part of a pod known as the 169s.
The group is not often seen, but is known to swim with a pod from Iceland, such as the 19s pod which were spotted at Duncansby Head over the weekend. ....
