Photo by: Aidan Pollard MATTAPOISETT The voters have decided: Jodi Lynn Bauer will be Mattapoisett’s newest Select Board member. Of the 5,593 eligible voters in town, 1,994 about 35.7% turned out to vote in Tuesday’s Town Election. Bauer won retiring Board Chair Paul Silva’s seat with 1,154 votes. Her competitor, Nicki Demakis, earned 821 votes. There were no write-ins, but 19 voters left the ballot question blank. ....
Aidan Pollard May 12, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Town Election will be on May 18, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Old Hammondtown School, with 11 elected offices and a question on the ballot. Leading the ballot is the race for the newly renamed Select Board, between Nicki Demakis and Jodi Lynn Bauer. The two are vying for Paul Silva’s position on the board, as he chose not to seek another term. Two positions on the Mattapoisett School Committee are open: Incumbent Jim Muse’s seat, for which he is seeking reelection, and a seat left open by Carol Clifford, who chose not to run for reelection. ....
The Wanderer Solar Bylaw Withdrawn from Warrant on April 13, 2021 It may not be a true eleventh-hour revelation, but pretty close, as the Mattapoisett Planning Board voted on April 5 to withdraw a new Solar Bylaw Article from the Annual Town Meeting Warrant after learning that legal edits are needed. For over a year, the board and its members, especially Janice Robbins, have been beavering away on solar bylaw drafts in preparation for a Town Meeting vote. Now, practically on the eve of having the warrant printed, the board learned that legal review would prompt a number of edits. Robbins, who has nearly single-handedly spearheaded the bylaw draft, said, “I thought town counsel had already seen it, but, no, they hadn’t.
