Donald Trump was both the cause and the symptom of the US social and economic decay ( A divided America holds its breath for inauguration like no other , January 20). He was a symptom in that he exploited the social and economic inequality that was already present. However, he also exacerbated that inequality by giving tax cuts to the wealthy and by sanctioning the violence of the white supremacists. Let us hope that the Republicans see the error of their ways. They enabled Trump. Now they can redeem themselves by supporting Biden s healing agenda.
