MARION  A committee of Elizabeth Taber Library trustees and librarians have created three surveys to gain information to shape the library s new five-year strategic plan.
There are surveys for elementary students and middle and high school students to weigh in. There is also a survey for all other residents.
Each survey is designed to gain as much information as possible to help guide the Elizabeth Taber Library s policies, programming and services to the Marion community.
To take the survey, visit www.ElizabethTaberLibrary.org. Print surveys are available at the Library, Council on Aging, and at the Marion Arts center. ....

Phoebe Barbee's family seeks support to keep her killer in prison

A Cabarrus County family is asking for community support to keep the man convicted of murdering 19-year-old Phoebe Barbee behind bars.
After a 10-day trial in 1979, Roger Warren Clark received two life sentences for the kidnapping and murder of Phoebe Alisa Barbee. But Clark was later considered for parole in 1999, and since then, he has gone before the N.C. Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission several times.
Sonja Barbee, Phoebe’s sister, said that usually the family makes the trip to Raleigh to stand before the commission to request Clark stay in prison.
“In years past, our family has been given the opportunity to go before the commission in person; however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we could only voice our opposition to his parole via conference call,” Sonja wrote in a social media post. “Once again, we are asking for your help. ....

February happenings at the Marion Council on Aging

MARION From lunches to friendly conversations, there’s a lot going on at the Council on Aging this month. 
The council will offer a friendly conversation program, in which residents can socialize and talk out issues brought on by covid. 
Those who are interested or know of someone who is in need of a friendly phone call may contact Karen Gregory at 508-748-3570.
The COA is also offering a Valentine’s Day luncheon at 1 p.m. on Feb. 14.
