Pensioner convicted of murder of Nelson woman A pensioner has today (May 13th) been sentenced after being found guilty of the murder of his neighbour at her home in Nelson. Thursday, 13th May 2021, 6:00 pm Alan Fare (73) of Victory Close, Nelson was given a hospital order at Preston Crown Court for the murder of Mandy Houghton (58) also from Nelson. Shortly before 11am on June 3rd 2020 Fare arrived at Burnley Police Station saying he thought he had “killed someone.” Officers immediately attended an address on Victoria Close, and Ms Houghton was found unresponsive in the hallway. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. ....

A MAN who died in his home from hypothermia could have been saved if he hadn’t been neglected by friends, a coroner concluded. Andrew Forrest, 49, was found dead by three friends who were concerned they hadn’t heard from him. Coroner James Newman, sitting in Preston, said Andrew, of Florence Street, Burnley, died from hypothermia after being left by two friends in a ‘confused, vacant’ state in a cold house which was overflowing with water. He added that if they had sought help for him, it would be likely he would be alive today and said that despite Andrew dying of natural causes from hypothermia, negligence played a part. ....
