Nelson Mandela is known as one of the most important civil rights activists in the world. His life and fight for equality is the subject of the newest exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum in partnership with America’s Black Holocaust Museum.
Ellen Censky is the president and CEO of the Milwaukee Public Museum, which is hosting
“[Mandela’s life] is this story of this man who is, when you read about him he’s such a humble man, but so driven and never gave up,” says Censky. ....

The Housing Action Coalition of Waukesha County is seeking to turn an old Waukesha firehouse into an overflow homeless shelter.
WAUKESHA, Wis. - A proposal in Waukesha could turn an old firehouse into a warm place to stay.
Leaders with the Housing Action Coalition of Waukesha County will present to the city s Plan Commission on Wednesday night, April 28 seeking to turn the structure into an overflow homeless shelter.
The proposal calls for the building, located on Sentry Drive, to be renovated and used as an emergency shelter during the winter. ....

A Gift Eternal by artist Kierston Ghaznavi is one piece included in the new exhibit at America s Black Holocaust Museum.
African Americans in the United States are the largest ethnic group in need of organ transplants at 35%. In Wisconsin, more than 2,000 people are currently on the transplant list, and 400 of them are Black.
This according to Colleen McCarthy, vice president of Versiti Organ & Tissue Donation, a federally designated organ procurement organization.
“Organ donation is a rare opportunity. Every 10 minutes, another name is added to the national transplant waiting list, and every day 22 people die waiting for their second chance for an organ transplant,” she said. ....

MILWAUKEE - The need for organ and tissue donors in Milwaukee is great, and it s even greater among African-American residents.
A local art exhibit, which opens April 30, hopes to get more people registered as potential donors.
