Woman loses 115 pounds, leads organization that gets Black women running

(NEW YORK) Jay Elle Alexander credits running with helping her lose 115 pounds.
The 33-year-old mother of a 16-month-old son is now the CEO of Black Girls Run, an organization that encourages Black women to take charge of their health through running.
“When you’re trying to lose weight or get healthier, it’s not easy, especially when you’re in your 30s, 40s and 50s,” Alexander told ABC News’
Good Morning America. “Having people who look like you that share in that experience, I think just means so much from a support standpoint, accountability and people just to encourage you on the pavement.” ....

Freihofer's Run for Women launches "Ready, Set, Snow" winter fitness challenge


ALBANY, N.Y. — Organizers of the 43rd Freihofer’s Run for Women, which is set for Saturday, June 5, have launched a new 10-week fitness program designed to keep Capital Region families moving over the winter, while also providing much needed financial support to Freihofer s Run for Women’s non-profit partners. 
The Ready, Set, Snow Challenge is a fun, co-ed program that runs through March 15. Registration is open through Jan. 15. The fee is $25.

Out on a hike in Colorado, a large group of Black women were approached by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies, with guns on their hips, asking “What’s going on here?” The most recent National Park Service survey found that 6% of visitors are Black, compared with 77% white.
