When MTF Finance launched their
inaugural Future Legends Scholarship in April this year,
they did not anticipate judging nearly 400 applications. MTF
Finance CEO and judge Glen Todd said that the judging team
were impressed by the number and calibre of the
applicants.
“Overall the level of accomplishment was
exceptional with many of the applicants already representing
New Zealand at an international level. They’re dedicated
and driven to achieve, and some of them are barely out of
intermediate school. New Zealand’s future is in excellent
hands”.
This scholarship provides young Kiwis aged
13-21 years with the opportunity to further develop their

It was great getting along to Westshore in Napier last Sunday morning, and seeing the next crop of surf lifesavers mixing it up and getting among it at the local carnival.
All the local clubs fronting up to make for a great day for all the juniors, pitching their skills and competing for their clubs on the sand and in the surf.
Unless you happen to be a part of it, it is one of those unseen yet crucial community activities going on, where we have a great bunch of community volunteers, hidden away from the limelight, but doing so much to develop knowledge and confidence in the surf for our young people.

This weekend at Kingscliff, Danielle McKenzie will be one of many women competing in the start of the 2020 Nutri-Grain Ironwoman series.
But being born in New Zealand, growing up McKenzie didn’t even know an opportunity to participate in surf lifesaving at an elite level existed, turning her attention to other sports instead (and cheering on the All Blacks).
“Growing up, through school I played pretty much every sport growing up,” said McKenzie.

We head overseas for the latest catch-up with a former Te Puke High School student. National surf lifesaving representative Natalie Peat has lived on Australia s Gold Coast since 2014 - just a short walk from the beach where she trains.
