Dr. Seuss Enterprises, a private company, has chosen to respond to consumer desires while seeking to maximize the sales of their products in the long run in a capitalist free market.
To this end, it has announced that it will no longer sell six individual children s books written decades ago by Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, because of the books racist depictions of Asians and Blacks. This decision has engendered fury and cries of political correctness from the right - the same people who usually view the unfettered free market as the paragon of individual freedom. ....

We culled through the vast piles of collected books in a borrowed school gymnasium looking for torn or dirty copies and inappropriate ones. Sure, there were a number meant more for grownups and even a couple of Playboy magazines that got caught up in the collection. ....

Eugene Jackson recounts growing up in Alabama, life in Lima
Eugene Jackson gave a talk Saturday virtually, presented by the Lima Public Library.
LIMA Eugene Jackson, of Lima, discussed his life and chronicled the history of Blacks throughout the world in a virtual discussion Saturday at the Lima Public Library.
“I was born in a Jim Crow world down in Phenix City, Alabama, a little town across from Columbus, Georgia and Fort Benning. The little town was rated one of the wickedest little cities in the United States. They made a movie about what happened here. It’s called ‘The Phenix City Story,’” Jackson said. ....
