Murray, who founded the project at the university, served on the steering committee of Clemency Project 2014, a collaboration of defense organizations that recruited and trained lawyers to submit clemency applications under an initiative by then President Barack Obama. Murray focuses now on the clemency or compassionate release cases of people incarcerated in Minnesota’s federal and state prisons, so students (at least before the pandemic) could meet their clients. ....
Doylestown Borough is now the first Bucks County municipality to pass an ordinance relaxing the penalty for those caught with a small amount of marijuana. Under the ordinance, anyone found with less than 30 grams of marijuana or 8 grams or less of hashish would be issued a citation, akin to a non-traffic ticket, and would be fined $25. If someone receives a citation for possession three times in a five-year period, he or she would then be charged with the misdemeanor for a fourth offense. Each fine is $25. Councilwoman Noni West said the ordinance helps juveniles as with their futures and helps allocate police resources better. ....

Bucks and Montgomery County residents will have several locations to get rid of unused medications this month. Police departments in both counties will be participating in the twice annual National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, a national event by the Drug Enforcement Administration, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24. Some departments will be hosting their events at their departments, while others will be hosting events at other locations in their areas. More than 40 departments between both counties will be hosting drug takeback events. Prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules, inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, pet medicines and vaping products will be accepted, according to a news release from the Montgomery County District Attorney s Office. ....
