York graphic designer Grace Abell, with her new designs for Royal Mail charity, The Rowland Hill Fund. A YORK-based graphic designer has created new branding for the national Royal Mail charity which supports postal workers in times of need. Grace Abell, of Abell Design, whose studio is in Heslington Road, was asked by the not-for-profit Rowland Hill Fund to design a new logo, strapline, colour palette and charity icon. They approached Grace after becoming aware of her work with previous clients, including National Geographic Traveller and the University of York. It was a welcome commission during a difficult year for the freelancer who has been able to keep operating despite juggling parenting when nurseries shut during the first lockdown. ....

Her childhood experiences bred a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of all children. In March 1939, Hitler occupied the remainder of what was then Czechoslovakia, and Jews in Prague were aware of the danger they were in. Sue’s secular Jewish parents took the brave decision to send her on a Kindertransport in June 1939, thinking it would be a temporary measure, but, like most children who made the journey, Sue never saw them again. ....
