Pain, headache, fatigue: How COVID-19 lingers on and on for some


 two weeks ago
 alone in her quiet Fairfield home, wincing through the stabbing pains in her stomach, lungs and heart. For the last year and a half, she’s spent most of her nights like this.
This is how COVID-19 has left her.
She says that her March 2020 diagnosis felt like a death sentence. Especially since she was the first COVID patient at Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital and third in Butler County, according to Mercy Health spokesperson Nanette Bentley.
Wood survived a two-week hospitalization and a round of Hydroxychloroquine, an immunosuppressive drug touted by then-President Trump and since shown to have no antiviral effects on COVID-19. ....

Milwaukee is seeing an unexpected spike in cases of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, according to health officials.

Butler County health officials again are urging drug users and others not to re-use needles after seeing a spike in HIV cases this year, the Journal-News reports.
The number of cases so far is 700 percent higher — eight more patients — than the same period last year, the health agencies announced.
Health commissioners were concerned enough to release a public alert, which noted one way people can avoid using dirty needles is to use syringe and condom exchange, which are available in Middletown and Fairfield, but not Hamilton or other Butler County communities. ....
