Monday’s General Elections in Saint Lucia could have major implications for cannabis in the Caribbean after the Saint Lucia Labour Party, which campaigned on passing the region’s most progressive cannabis reform proposal, claimed victory. The party, led by Philip Joseph Pierre, won thirteen of the seventeen Parliamentary constituencies contested in the election, defeating the United Workers Party led by outgoing Prime Minister Allen Chastanet. ....

Wickham: Swing towards SLP in St Lucia elections

CASTRIES – The main opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) was leading in most of the constituencies as counting continued following the general elections held here earlier on Monday.
Political strategist and director of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES), Peter Wickham, speaking on television here, said that the results seem to show a “significantly greater swing that I had expected from the ruling party.
“As it stands now, the swing is in double digits and the United Workers Party (UWP) would have to do very well to try and contain that swing,” Wickham said, acknowledging that the SLP have been winning “in every singly constituency”. ....
