Caribou Gets Toro y Moi, Jessy Lanza, Floating Points for Suddenly Remixes Listen to a remix of Never Come Back by Koreless Suddenly, Caribou s Dan Snaith has now announced the full-length release of Suddenly Remixes, out on March 12 through Merge Records. Today, we get a sneak peek of what s to come with a remix of Never Come Back by Koreless. Of the collection, Snaith offered the following statement: Sometimes remixes are commissioned to be marketing tools or to make the music functional in a club. But for me, there s only one reason to get remixes done: because I m a giddy fan of the remixer. Looking down the tracklisting of this remix album, it s a thrill to see a list of producers whose music I find so inspiring collected there. Some are established artists, some are just starting out; some I messaged, begging a remix, right after coming across their music for the first time; and some are dear friends whose music I ve loved for a while but in ....
Reindeer, or caribou as they’re known in North America, are impressive travellers. Herds made up of many thousands of animals can cover 5,000km each year in the far north of Europe, Siberia and Canada. This is one of the longest land migrations on Earth – but an ongoing transformation of the Arctic landscape threatens to break it up. In one study, researchers found that reindeer in Norway lost 70% of undisturbed habitat during the 20th century. In Finland and Sweden, the figure is thought to be similar. ....
A January day in Alaska brings random thoughts on politics, fishing and snowmachines Author: John Schandelmeier Print article There is no rhyme or reason to my thinking on this day. Maybe because I was up till midnight last night messing with a nice load of fire-killed spruce. I am far from political, but maybe Joe Biden will shut down the Pebble mine process. I will also bet the folks from Arctic Village are happy with Biden as he will quickly close ANWR back down. One has to scratch our heads and wonder what Gov. Mike Dunleavy is thinking with his court challenge of the Army Corps of Engineers’ rejection of the Pebble permit. Thought he was pro-fish? ....
Trump Auctions Off Arctic Refuge Land to Oil Companies
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, January 14, 2020 (ENS) – The Trump administration has begun to auction off roughly one-third of Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling. It is no coincidence that this lease sale was announced with only a few weeks left in the Trump presidency, as President Donald Trump is eager to kickstart Arctic oil drilling before leaving the White House on January 20. The refuge is home to some of the most diverse and spectacular wildlife in the Arctic, according to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. “The refuge’s rich pageant of wildlife includes 42 fish species, 37 land mammals, eight marine mammals, and more than 200 migratory and resident bird species,” the USFWS says. ....
