Courtesy of John Shaw and Association of Great Neck Four graduating Ipswich High School seniors were awarded scholarships from the Association of Great Neck (AGN) during the organization’s annual meeting. The AGN annually presents awards to deserving students from Great Neck who submit an essay about growing up on the Neck. The 2021 scholarship recipients, all of whom will be attending school next fall, are: Carina Jones, who will attend Hamilton College; Malcolm MacDonald, who will major in finance at UMass Amherst; Brady Scobert, who will major in interior design at the University of New Hampshire; and Angelina Rix, who will major in environmental science at Endicott College. ....

In less than a month due to the cattle market crash, a similar group of calves brought $50,000 less. “How the heck do you make up that kind of money?” Brokaw said. “I’m 42 and I have never been able to vote on the checkoff. It is supposed to help us but instead is crushing our industry.” Brokaw feels that beef producers should be given the opportunity to vote on the beef check-off and that the current system is broken and needs to be fixed. He has been asking producers to sign the R-CALF USA petition for a referendum on the checkoff. “I’ve asked most of my neighbors and friends who run cattle, and I haven’t been told no yet. A lot of people are very receptive and I’ve had good luck with it.” ....
