Two senior citizens rescued from flash flood in Johor 18 Apr 2021 / 10:55 H. JOHOR BAHRU: Two senior citizens, trapped in a flash flood which inundated Kampung Laut Batu 9 ½ Skudai, near here yesterday, were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department last night. Skudai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Mohd Riduan Akhyar said the couple, were trapped at home in the flood due to continuous rain since yesterday afternoon. ‘’A search and rescue (SAR) effort to save the two victims, aged 80 and 70 years, was mobilised after receiving a call at 4.36 pm. ‘’A Toyota Hilux and an aluminium boat from the Skudai BBP as well as a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) truck and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle from Kempas with 14 firemen were roped in for the SAR. ....

KOTA BHARU (Feb 22): The Federal Government through the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) is working closely with the Kelantan government to implement various high-impact projects and human capital programmes to generate socio-economic development in Kelantan. ECERDC chief executive officer Baidzawi Che Mat said it is in line with the national agenda to improve the living standards of the people and eradicate poverty, as Kelantan recorded the highest poverty rate in the ECER and the second highest in Malaysia. “The review of the Kelantan Poverty Line Income (PLI) limit in 2020 from RM894 to RM2,139, is expected to increase the number of households living in poverty from 18,345 to 50,255, while 16,712 Orang Asli in Kelantan belong to the hardcore poor. ....
