The couple made headlines last year by announcing they’d be gifting 900 hectares of their
station to Queen Elizabeth II National Trust, which protects NZ’s natural heritage, in 2022,
coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the family’s ownership of the land.
Soon after the couple featured on the New Year’s honours list for services to philanthropy and conservation. ....

An Auckland couple were lucky to escape from their luxury launch when it burst into flames on Wednesday night.
Eyewitness Morris Watson said the boat owner noticed a burning smell at about 9.30 pm.
He opened a hatch in the cockpit housing the batteries only to find the area engulfed in flames. ....

Aquaculture farms alerted after large oil slick from boat fire discovered

Council staff are scrambling to contain the 5km long and 300m wide oil slick in a Coromandel bay following a boat blaze there overnight.
Waikato Regional Council deployed staff after the 47-foot fibreglass launch caught fire and sunk in Woolshed Bay, Whanganui Island.
There was 2000 litres of diesel on board. Those on board at the time were able to escape safely.
A regional council maritime officer has been at the scene of the sinking since early this morning.
The council said the slick was first noticed early this afternoon and an oil spill response was initiated and it has set up an emergency operations centre. ....
