Katherine A. Giovacco LAKE PLACID Katherine A. “Kat” Giovacco joined the firm of Flink Maswick Law PLLC as a partner on Nov. 16. Flink Maswick Law has offices in the Capital District, but its home base of operation is at 2577 Main St. It traces its roots back to a law firm established at that building 50 years ago by Favor R. Smith, who merged his practice with Ed Flink’s law firm in 2004, as Flink and his firm were looking to establish a Lake Placid office to serve its rapidly growing client base. Ed Flink and Jamey Maswick, both St. Lawrence University grads, teamed up shortly thereafter, Maswick joining what was then Flink Smith Law while he was a law student at Albany Law, from which both he and Flink also graduated. By CARA CHAPMAN Press-Republican Dec 8, 2020 SARANAC â The Saranac Central School District will have a fully remote schedule for the entirety of this week following reports of positive cases linked to multiple school buildings that led to dozens being quarantined. Superintendent of Schools Javier Perez wrote in a community update Saturday that a high school teacher and a fourth-grade Saranac Elementary student had tested positive. Sunday, he was notified about a student intern who had been infected. Perez wrote that Clinton County Public Health Director John Kanoza called him to recommend the move to distance learning due to both recent cases and the number of students sent home with symptoms last week. ....
By BEN WATSONÂ Press-Republican Dec 10, 2020 WEST CHAZY â Seven departments responded to a structure fire at 4 West Wood Dr. that displaced 10 people Wednesday night. The West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze at 3:12 p.m., with the first arriving on scene finding the structure fully involved, West Chazy Fire Chief Kevin Girard said. His department received mutual aid from Beekmantown, Altona, Chazy, Mooers, Champlain and Plattsburgh District 3 with Clinton County Deputy Coordinator Cars 4 and 7 and Clinton County Fire Investigator Cars 18 and 20 also responding while Cumberland Head stood by in West Chazy. The flames of the double-wide modular home never threatened any other structures, Girard said, but the fire resulted in a total loss of the building. ....
