2021 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrated virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic 3 hours ago At the neighboring Anglican Shrine, under the stewardship of Retired Arch Bishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo (RIP) is a dedicated a Martyrs Museum at the spot of their execution in 1886 with impressive live size sculptures depicting the martyrdom of the 23 Anglican martyrs who were bound and set on a pyre of fire by the kabakas chief executioner, Mukajanga and his men. Ironically the martyrdom sowed the seeds of Christianity in Uganda as both Kabaka Mwanga, whose father Musesa I had invited missionaries back in 1875, and his chief executioner converted to Christianity before their deaths. ....
Mixed fortunes for Pakwach, Mbarara iconic solar eclipse sites Latest Magazines Saturday May 22 2021 Summary The unique solar eclipse sites in Uganda that were to promote tourism, have witnessed mixed fortunes. While the hybrid solar eclipse monument in Pakwach has been vandalised, the one in Mbarara has been given Shs150m by UNDP to spruce up its architectural radiance, Bamuturaki Musinguzi writes. Although Uganda is blessed with two solar eclipse monuments, one celebrating a recent and the other an event 100 years ago, these unique tourism sites are under threat from vandals. The more recent monument celebrates Uganda’s hosting of a rare hybrid solar eclipse in 2013, which was erected at Owiny Primary School in Pakwach District, north-western Uganda. It was unveiled by President Museveni, but is now being vandalised by unknown people. ....
Kadaga to meet Mayiga over Kabaka s health April 19, 2021 Speaker Rebecca Kadaga The speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga will meet the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga over the Kabaka’s health. Last week, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi caused concern among his subjects when he appeared for his 66th birthday celebrations looking frail ill and seemingly struggling for breath. Mayiga, later explained that the Kabaka was suffering from allergins caused by exposure to wearing masks and face masks. The newly elected Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) councillors led by Jeremiah Keeya Mwanje, the Kasubi councillor today met Kadaga and expressed concern about the wellbeing of cultural leaders because government has remained silent on Kabaka s health. ....
