BAFTA TV Awards rules explained | Eligibility, dates, categories

Thursday, 3rd June 2021 at 5:46 pm The BAFTA TV Awards are just around the corner, with this year’s ceremony taking place on Sunday 6th June – and there are a whole host of brilliant shows up for awards. Advertisement Small Axe, The Crown and I May Destroy You lead the pack with those shows having receiving 15, 10 and eight nods respectively when the BAFTA TV nominations 2021 were unveiled at the end of April. Some other recent shows are nowhere to be seen – including huge hits such as Line of Duty and It’s a Sin – but fear not, these are not major omissions on the part of BAFTA, it’s simply the case that these series were not eleigible for this year’s awards due to their release dates.

Nicola Coughlan s Lady Whistledown reveal up for award at this year s BAFTAs

The scene was iconic and the fact that our very own Coughlan was the centre of the mayhem and mischief occurring in British High Society made it even better. The BAFTAs seem to think so too, because the reveal has only gone and been nominated for the Virgin Media Must See Moment of the year. The nominees for this award were announced yesterday ahead of the rest of the BAFTA nominations. While Lady Whistledown s reveal is by far the most satisfyingly shock (in our opinion), Coughlan could have some stiff competition in securing the gong. Among the other nominees are The Mandalorian s Luke Skywalker reveal, Gray killing Charlotte in EastEnders, and of course, Nigella Lawson pronouncing microwave like  mee-cro-wah-vay.
