As city leaders and architects across New England consider ways to reinvigorate the three-decker, others are weighing in on why they fell out of favor and how to improve them even without a costly renovation.
From South Boston to Fall River and even on the silver screen in Boston-based films like “Spotlight,” “Good Will Hunting,” and “The Departed,” the three-decker remains an iconic housing stock. Think of it as the original form of affordable housing: Relatives would often live in each of the three residences that comprise the relatively inexpensive-to-develop building, or they might even rent one out for income. “Living in or near a New England triple-decker,” the New York Times wrote, “was like despising the Yankees or skipping work on St. Patrick’s Day.” ....

Montana Fire Services Training School leads demonstrated ability training event at Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute for training officers statewide

LAWRENCE Firefighting is an inherently dangerous job. Firefighters must be well-trained for safe operations, but they also must be well-trained to deliver exceptional service to customers – those calling 911 and anyone in need of help. 
On April 14 and 15, the Montana State University Fire Services Training School (FSTS) conducted an Instructor C training event for the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute (KFRTI). The two-day event, led by Brian Crandell and John Culbertson, trained instructors in the FSTS demonstrated ability methodology, also called training in context, which emphasizes a performance-based assessment of skills.
Crandell wrote his doctoral thesis on demonstrated ability, which FSTS has been employing in their training process for 30 years. Training officers from the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department, Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2, Topeka Fire Department, Coffeyville Fire Department and Kansas Fire & Rescue ....

Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center graduates 274th Basic Training Class

HUTCHINSON Twenty-seven new law enforcement officers graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) on Feb. 26 at a ceremony held in KLETC’s Integrity Auditorium. 
Deputy Luke Davis of the Gray County Sheriff’s Office was the graduating class president. The speaker for the ceremony was Chief Nelson Mosley of the Rose Hill Police Department. Mike Satterlee, KLETC senior instructor of police, was the class coordinator for the 274th Basic Training Class.
Officer Samantha Snell of the Galena Police Department was recognized by KLETC Executive Director Darin Beck and awarded a KLETC Certificate of Commendation for her actions in the performance of her duties. Snell, along with Officer Logan Grant of the Galena Police Department, risked their lives on Jan. 18 in an attempt to save victims of a fiery two-vehicle head-on crash. Grant will be recognized when he graduates March 19. ....
