The pupils had lost any hope of resuming classes after the reopening of schools by the government. 
At Bikone Primary School in Kasese District in May last year, all the classroom blocks were washed away by floods after River Mubuku burst its banks, leaving more than 500 learners stranded with nowhere to study from.
The floods from River Thaku also swept away classrooms at Kisabu Primary School also in Kasese District, leaving more than 300 pupils helpless.  ....

More than 150 families, part of the 10,000 people who were displaced by the floods two years ago after water levels in Lake Albert rose, are living in a dire condition.
The lives of many locals who have gathered in Kanara Sub-county,  Ntoroko District near Lake Albert, are being threatened since the  temporal houses erected in water are on the verge of collapsing. The families are also in dire need of food and other essential basic needs. ....

Mr Gerald Baale, the Kamwenge senior probation and social welfare officer, noted that despite the many laws and policies in place, the country continues experiencing significant sexual and reproductive health challenges such as high cases of teenage pregnancy and early marriages in schools.
