Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. On the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 05th to 14th of April in this year. The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead tomorrow (13th), are Tikali, Mallavi, Vannivilankulam, Idaikkadu and Andankulam at about 12:10 noon. ....

Photo / George Novak Whareroa Marae s environment manager is calling for urgent Government action over ongoing concerns about heavy industry contaminants in the area. Yesterday the Bay of Plenty Regional Council confirmed it was investigating reports that PFAS compounds had been recorded in groundwater in Mount Maunganui s industrial area, on a site near the marae. PFAS are a large group of man-made compounds that have widely used globally in a range of consumer and industrial applications. The regional council s general manager of regulatory services Sarah Omundsen said the council was acting quickly to gain a fuller picture of the issue. ....
