Alexandra Forrestall given house arrest in deadly Markham hit-and-run

A 26-year-old woman who fled the scene of a Markham, Ont. crash that left a 54-year-old father of three dead last year has been sentenced to house arrest.
On Thursday during a hearing held over Zoom, Justice Edward Prutschi sentenced Alexandra Forrestall to a 12-month conditional sentence, two years probation, 100 hours of community service and a three-year driving ban.
In his decision, Prutschi called the circumstances of this case “a colossal tragedy” and noted that the sentence will “likely attract criticism from all quarters.”
“It will undoubtedly be viewed as too lenient for those who are, entirely understandably, still shattered, broken and angry from the loss of their beloved father, husband, sibling, family member, colleague and friend,” he said. ....

Muscat: Omani doctor Dr. Qassim bin Saleh Al Abri, a specialist in cardiothoracic surgery at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, was awarded the Michael Davidson Award.
The award bestowed by the prestigious Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons based in the United States of America, is given to those doctors who leave an indelible mark in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
The award commemorates the contribution of Dr. Michael Davidson, who was assassinated in 2016 while performing his professional duty.
His notable and far-reaching contributions in this particular segment is continued and remembered through this award.
