A federal bill passed by Parliament in June and proclaimed into law on Tuesday, removed the prohibition on single game betting.
The prohibition had been on the books for decades for every sport but horse racing to prevent match-fixing. Requiring someone to place a parlay bet on multiple games at the same time in theory made it harder to fix games, but the internet has enabled a multimillion-dollar grey market. April 28 (UPI) A Canadian lottery player is celebrating her double dose of good luck after winning two jackpots worth more than $80,000 in under two months.
Kerrie Crouch of Calgary told Western Canada Lottery Corp. officials she was shocked to discover her ticket for the Western 649 drawing, which she purchased from the Save-on-Foods store at Calgary s TransCanada Center, was her second $81,171.80 jackpot in under two months.

Dec. 16 (UPI) A Canadian man said he was in no rush to collect his nearly $200,000 lottery jackpot, so he waited almost an entire year to visit lottery headquarters.
John Michalski of Gladstone, Manitoba, told Western Canada Lottery Corp. officials he found out the day after the drawing that the Extra he added to his Lotto Max ticket for the Dec. 17, 2019, had matched all seven of the numbers drawn.
