How Do You Mark the Passage of Time? May 27, 2021 For each and everyone of us time is a right of passage. For some a gentle arrival into the world, a steady walk through the ages and a graceful departure when it’s our time to leave. For others it’s a crash, bang wallop arrival followed by leaps, somersaults, base jumping from pillar to post with a final tremendous leap into the unknown. Now for some people reading these words, it sounds as though it will be a break into prose, a catalogue of verses and scripture and perhaps advice on embracing life’s gifts and challenges. ....
CHESAPEAKE, VA (Catholic Online) - On January 24th in the Liturgical calendar in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, we remember St Francis De Sales (1567-1610). This inspiring Christian leader reminds all men and women, no matter what their state in life, occupation or specific vocation, that every Christian is called to holiness. Citing the words of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of Matthew (Matt. 5:48) The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, All Christians in any state or walk of life are called to the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of charity. All are called to holiness: Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (CCC #2013) ....

I first heard American folklorist and writer Henry Glassie talking on Irish radio in 2010. It was a night time show called Arts Tonight and the host was the poet and playwright Vincent Woods. They spoke for an hour; about folklore and art, his time in Ireland in the ‘70s, in Turkey in the ‘80s and his growing-up years in Virginia. It remains one of my most memorable radio experiences as Glassie, in that hour, took the listener out into the wide world and right back to the small place that is, of course, an everywhere – and to an acknowledgement ....
Who Was St. Patrick? By Dr. Jim Denison dr. jim denison Shutterstock.com The man we know as St. Patrick was born around 389 AD in England. His father was a deacon and his grandfather a priest. The Roman Empire was still in titular control of Britain, but their demoralized armies were unable to protect the island from Irish invaders. Farms were pillaged and teenagers enslaved. Patrick was taken at age sixteen. An Irish farmer bought him as a slave and put him to work tending sheep. Somehow Patrick came to personal faith in Christ in the midst of his tribulations. He later wrote, “The Lord opened to me a sense of my unbelief, that I might be converted with all my heart unto the Lord.” ....
Brookston Beer Bulletin You are here: Home Beer Saints: St. Dorothy of Caesarea Today is the feast day of St. Dorothy of Caesarea (?–February 6, 311 CE). She was a patron saint of brewers and is also known as Dora, Dorotea, and Dorothy. There’s very little information about her life, just a few scant details and I’m not even sure exactly why her patroness extended to brewers. This is her overview from Wikipedia: St. Dorothea “is a 4th-century virgin martyr who was executed at Caesarea Mazaca. Evidence for her actual historical existence or acta is very sparse. She is called a martyr of the Diocletianic Persecution, although her death occurred after the resignation of Diocletian himself. She should not be confused with another 4th-century saint, Dorothea of Alexandria. ....
