Nursing leaders fear mega-polytech will try to change nursing education

Nursing education is currently delivered at one wānanga – or Māori-culture based tertiary institution – six universities and 14 Te Pūkenga subsidiaries or institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs) across New Zealand.
Among the NNLG’s concerns is the “unintended potential” to create a two-tier system, where universities have autonomy over their individual programmes, but the ITPs do not.
Victoria University of Wellington school of nursing director and NNLG board member Kathy Holloway said ITP courses could be seen as a “less agile and more restricted programme” and be less attractive to potential students.
“Potentially this could lead to a drop in enrolments,” she said. ....

Tributes paid to former Argus employee Roger King, who has died at 81

TRIBUTES have been paid to a caring, true gentleman and former print worker who has died at the age of 81.
Roger King worked in the press hall at the Evening Argus, as it was then known, from 1975 until 1989.
He had began his career at Southern Publishing Ltd in 1962 as a hand compositor, arranging the text and pictures in the newspaper, before transferring to The Argus for 14 years.
Roger, who lived in Patcham for 60 years, died peacefully at his home on December 17.
Born on September 26, 1939 in Gloucestershire, Roger suffered a difficult start in life after contracting bovine tuberculosis at the age of seven. ....
