GUNTERSVIILE, Ala. (WAFF) - Monday marks the beginning of National Hospital Week, and Marshall Medical Centers is showing appreciation for the healthcare heroes there.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, Marshall Medical Centers staff were too busy to celebrate National Hospital Week. Instead, they worked hard to save lives.
Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Woodruff said the pandemic showed how important healthcare workers are.
“Saying thank you is not enough, we wish we could do more. Our staff have been wonderful this past year and it’s been a struggle and difficult time for all of us, you know new people and those who have been in healthcare for years. It’s been unprecedented,” said Woodruff. ....

The CDC say millions are going without their second coronavirus shots. In their report, they say it s about 8% of people nationwide.
Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health says that right now, most Alabamians are coming back for their second coronavirus shots.
A number of our clinics are reporting 94 to 95% of patients coming back for their second dose, said Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health.  Alabama was doing quite well in terms of persons returning for the second dose. We re over 91, 92% and again, some of our clinics are much higher. ....

Northland over-50s pleased to get Covid-19 vaccine early, call for more to get it

Marshall Medical Centers has two new machines that use UV light to disinfect.
Our patients and staff need to know that we are doing everything possible to keep them safe from germs and viruses, said Jonathan Smith, director of surgical services.

The machine, called Thor, scans the room and reports how long it ll take to disinfect.
It s very good for our staff that they can feel safe in the room after they ve been cleaned and disinfected, said Kathy Woodruff. ....
