Poll Finds Most Canadians Support Governor General Mary Simon

A new poll finds 76 per cent of Canadians say they completely or mostly support the appointment of Mary Simon as Governor General.
The survey by
th found seven per cent of those who were asked oppose the appointment in some way while 16 per cent were unsure.
The Governor General’s lack of fluency in French did not impact her support in Quebec which is comparable to other parts of the country.
People living in Atlantic Canada and British Columbia are a bit more enthusiastic with support ranging from 80 to 82 per cent.
Looking at demographics, Gen-Z (85%) and Boomers (80%) are more likely to support Simon’s appointment compared to Gen-Xers (71%). ....

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin has called a provincial election for Aug. 17, saying the campaign will focus on building the economy after the province “crushed” the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This province is at a pivotal moment, and we need to continue to make the right decisions for workers, for seniors, for families and for all Nova Scotians,” Rankin said Saturday after visiting Lt.-Gov. Arthur LeBlanc to dissolve the legislature. ....
