Anyone who walks nearby St. Luke’s rectory on the corner of Locke Avenue and Clintonville St. in Whitestone, will now get to look up and see the name of the parish’s beloved former pastor. That’s because, on May 21, the intersection was co-named Msgr. John C. Tosi Way, after the former pastor who served at the parish for 15 years, from 2005 until his death in May 2020. WHITESTONE “God has big plans for you!” was recalled as the iconic quote of Msgr. John Tosi, the former pastor of 15 years at St. Luke’s Church in Whitestone. On a sunny Friday afternoon, crowds gathered outside the Queens church on May 21 to witness one plan that God had in store to remember the late priest’s life: the unveiling of the street sign co-named after him. ....

Motorists trying to get into Rockhampton today from Gracemere or southern towns had a long wait in traffic after a B-double was destroyed by fire.
Emergency services were called to the single vehicle incident on Gladstone Road, near The Cathedral College and A Man’s Toy Shop, about 3.45am.
A B-double was destroyed by fire on Gladstone Rd near A Man s Toy Shop and The Cathedral College, starting about 3.45am on May 6. It is believed the fire was caused by brakes overheating.
Reports indicate the fire started due to overheated brakes.
The driver managed to escape uninjured. ....

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has named the Rev. Monsignor William Edward Koenig, vicar for clergy for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, as the 10th Bishop of Wilmington.
The appointment was announced April 30 in Washington, D.C., by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Bishop-elect Koenig (pronounced Kay-nig) follows the Most Rev. W. Francis Malooly, who has served as bishop of the Catholic community of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore since 2008.
Born Aug. 17, 1956, in Queens, N.Y., Koenig grew up in East Meadow, N.Y. where he and his family were parishioners of St. Raphael’s Church. He attended St. Raphael’s Elementary School; St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary in Uniondale, N.Y.; Cathedral College in Douglaston, N.Y.; and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, N.Y. After ordination, he also attended Fordham Univ ....

WILMINGTON, Del More than two years after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75, Bishop W. Francis Malooly of Wilmington, Delaware, is stepping down.
Pope Francis accepted the resignation of President Joe Biden s 77-year-old bishop April 30 and named Msgr. William Koenig, vicar for clergy for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, to succeed him.
The changes were announced in Washington by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Vatican nuncio to the United States.
Malooly, a native of Baltimore, has led the diocese of Delaware and Maryland s Eastern Shore since 2008 and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood in 2020. ....
