/ Members of Great Lakes Exploration Group say everything about this wreck they found in 2018 suggests it s a very old ship. They think it’s the French ship, The Griffin, which disappeared in 1679 bearing a load of furs across northern Lake Michigan. The group searching for the remains of a 17th-century French ship says it has found what appears to be a colonial-era wreck in northern Lake Michigan. Photographs on Great Lakes Exploration Group s website show the frame of a boat somewhere in the waters off the Garden Peninsula in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We regret to inform you that the East Coast has once again discovered Wisconsin. Our friends at the Cape Cod Times recently did a story about finding the Massachusetts peninsula s long-lost, super awesome twin, Door County. The headline inquires, A Cape Cod in Wisconsin? Please, we know it s the other way around. Though fancy Cape Cod is nestled up against the Atlantic Ocean , the publication said Lake Michigan is no slouch. Using a phrase right out of the story, you betcha it s not. (By the way coasties, you betcha, is so last decade. We re in the ope era now.) The reason wasn t because of how the lake shimmers on a summer day or for its fishing or boating. But because it s the world s fifth-largest freshwater lake by volume. ....

Here s how a 2017 USA Today story described the locale: With an expansive shoreline dotted with boats and lighthouses, Door County has been called the Cape Cod of the Midwest. The 70-mile-long peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan incorporates dozens of islands, the largest of which is Washington Island. From Memorial Day to the end of October, Door County draws a big crowd. That vibe sure sounds familiar! Seeking a window into the world of Door County, I rang up Jon Jarosh, director of communications and public relations at the Door County Visitor Bureau. He described his corner of the world as a lovely mix of shoreline, quaint villages, public parklands, lighthouses and Mom and Pop-owned businesses. ....
Mike Norris Big Green Lake – The smallmouth bass bite is on, but I am only catching males. The water temp is still in the low 40’s, and I expect the bite and size to improve with warmer weather forecast for this coming weekend. Try Damiki rigs in 24 ft of water for smallies. Lake trout up to 36 inches active in 180 ft of water trolling with spoons and crankbaits. Lake Puckaway – Walleyes are done spawning and cooler water temps have slowed the fishing. Wisconsin Elite Series Walleye Tournament last weekend was only 9.51 pounds. Fox Lake (Dodge Co) Northern pike are active in shallow water, but the largemouth bass bite has slowed with water temps dropping back into the 50’s. Look for walleyes in the Government area and try trolling with spinners and crawlers. ....
