Strict laws, heavy fines needed as current coronavirus lockdown is useless, says PMA Karachi December 29, 2020 Terming the lockdown policy to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Pakistan “useless”, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) demanded of the federal and provincial governments on Monday to come up with a uniform policy to prevent the spread of the infectious disease and to use deterrence by imposing heavy fines on people violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs). The association also demanded of the politicians to immediately suspend their political activities, avoid public gatherings and use their influence to ensure that people follow the SOPs, saying that Covid-19 cases were still very high and dozens of people were dying on a daily basis. ....

The chief minister directed for keeping a vigilant eye on the hoarders and profiteers, besides launching a crackdown on them. He said action should be taken against the hoarders under the Anti-Hoarding Ordinance 2020, according to a handout issued here on Sunday. Usman Buzdar directed Provincial Price Control Committee to strictly monitor the prices of daily use items and utilise all administrative powers for providing the same to people at fixed rates as well. ....

‘Strict monitoring of commodities being ensured’ National December 28, 2020 MULTAN: South Punjab Housing Secretary Liaqat Ali Chattha said that availability of commodities on government rates was being ensured. He said that they were continuously reviewing the prices of flour, vegetables and fruits. The secretary expressed these views during visit to Vegetable Market and Sahulat Bazaar at DG Khan on Sunday. He said that strict monitoring of commodities including vegetables was being made. He said that steps were being taken on war footing regarding clean drinking water facilities in the South Punjab. The construction of 100,000 toilets would help resolve the health issues in backward areas of this region. The new era about uplift projects at all districts and tehsils of the South Punjab had been started and all arrangements were finalised in this regard, he added.
