The second session, which was presented virtually on Friday was titled “Don’t fall for that request to be a sugar baby” and was about social media, online grooming and recruiting in the digital age. The series is co-sponsored by Eyes Up Appalachia and Gallia County’s Citizens for Prevention and Recovery (CPR). The speaker for part two was Rhiannon Gill, a sexual violence victim advocate point person for the Pike County Coalition to End Human Trafficking. Gill is also a survivor of human trafficking. ....

The virtual “Human Trafficking in Higher Ed”seminar was hosted by Rio in conjunction with Eyes Up Appalachia and the Gallia County Citizens for Prevention and Recovery. Friday’s seminar was titled “Seriously? That’s Human Trafficking?” with the speaker being Stephanie Rollins, a 21-year survivor of human trafficking. ....
Rio hosts human trafficking awareness series Staff Report RIO GRANDE, Ohio The University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College is partnering with area organizations to bring awareness and education about human trafficking. Rio in conjunction with Eyes Up Appalachia and The Gallia County Citizens for Prevention & Recovery (CPR), will host three virtual seminars held the last Friday of January, February, and March. According to a news release from Rio, “Seriously? That’s Human Trafficking?” starts the series off at 1 p.m. on Jan 29. Stephanie Rollins a 21-year survivor of human trafficking and advocate as a peer support specialist who mentors survivors on their road to recovery is the featured speaker. ....

NELSONVILLE The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio has announced a partnership with the new anti-human trafficking initiative, Eyes Up Appalachia. Of the 32 counties in Appalachian Ohio, almost half are not represented by an anti-human trafficking coalition, including Gallia and Meigs Counties. Eyes Up Appalachia was formed to fill this void. The individuals that are trafficked often have underlying vulnerabilities such as poverty, marginalization, lack of education or economic opportunity, mental health concerns or substance use disorders. Unfortunately, these vulnerabilities are found throughout Appalachian Ohio. Recruitment becomes easier when these exist as the trafficker uses them as leverage. ....
