THIS WEEK: New business may come thanks to rezoning in Sugar Land By Roy Kent, Staff writer The rezoning of a parcel of land in Sugar Land could bring some new business to a site that has remained unused for nearly a year, thanks in large part to the ongoing pandemic. The city of Sugar Land’s is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, to discuss the rezoning of a property along U.S. Highway 59 and Parkway Boulevard south of Sugar Creek Boulevard. According to the city, the site of the proposed rezoning is the former 24-hour Fitness location that has been vacant since March of 2020. The business reportedly closed due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

City of Katy Dog Park to install new security camera to reduce number of abandoned dogs Community Impact Newspaper KATY, Texas A new security camera will soon be installed at Katy s dog park in an effort to reduce the number of dogs abandoned in the park. City Administrator Byron Hebert told Katy City Council on Jan. 11 that the city has ordered the camera, which will be installed at the park at 5414 Franz Road, Katy, later this month. We cannot allow for animals to get dumped at any of our city parks, and this number was not small, Katy Police Chief Noe Diaz said during the meeting. We must stop this practice.
