Islamabad [Pakistan], December 24 (ANI): In light of a 17-year old Hindu girl who died by suicide in October this year after she was allegedly raped last year, in Pakistan s Tharparkar district, a body of South Asian human rights groups has slammed Islamabad for unchecked forced conversion of Hindus living in the country, particularly minor Hindu girls and demanded that Islamabad must stop invasive attacks on the lives of minorities.
South Asia Collective s (SAC) South Asia State of Minorities Report, 2020: Minorities and Shrinking Civic Space released recently, has demanded that Pakistan must stop invasive attacks on the public lives of citizens through regressive laws that restrict civil liberties . ....

Centre for Social Justice organizes session on “Forced Conversion”

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) organized a session on “Forced Conversion” at Bright Hall School in Satellite Town Rawalpindi as part of a series of events initiated for the capacity building of minority leaders.
The session was organized under the auspices of the Coordinator Samuel Bashir and Jayaa Jaggi.
The session was joined by journalists, students, academia experts, civil society members and minority counselors.
Its purpose was to aware the participants regarding facts and figures and proper statistics of the cases of Forced Conversions from 2013 to 2020 and ignited a healthy debate to eradicate this problem from the society. ....

On October 19, Senator Anwar Ul Haq Kakar made a surprising statement suggesting that the faith conversions of minority girls were not forced but willful marriages. Dilating on the subject he further stated that the conversions were occurring due to economic factors.
This remark astonished the informed sections as it was made in a speech at the National Press Club, Islamabad, in the presence of some prominent minority leaders. It appeared to be the official position of the senator who is chairperson of the parliamentary committee, constituted a year ago to “protect minorities from forced conversions”.
