Texans are being asked to conserve energy through Friday as temperatures rise. The
Electric Reliability Council of Texas says there are tight grid conditions after 11,000 megawatts of generation was taken offline for repairs.
ERCOT noted it s unusual for so many units to be taken out of service early in the summer season.
We will be conducting a thorough analysis with generation owners to determine why so many units are out of service, said ERCOT Vice President of Grid Planning and Operations
Woody Rickerson.
The outages are expected to decrease as the week goes on.

Generator owners have reported approximately 11,000 MW of generation is on forced outage for repairs; of that, approximately 8,000 MW is thermal and the rest is intermittent resources. According to the summer Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy, a typical range of thermal generation outages on hot summer days is around 3,600 MW. One MW typically powers around 200 homes on a summer day.

ERCOT is asking Texas power consumers to lower their usage during peak hours.
Days after Gov. Greg Abbott said the Legislature had passed reforms that fix all of the flaws in Texas power grid, its operator asked residents to curb their power usage because it was struggling to generate enough electricity.
In a statement released Monday, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said it s asking Texans to conserve power during peak afternoon hours through Friday because power plant outages and rising temperatures are taxing the system. ....

Just a week or so into some of our hottest temperatures of the Summer and ERCOT (The Electric Reliability Council of Texas) is asking Texans to reduce electric use as much as possible through this upcoming Friday (June 18). ERCOT attributes the tight grid conditions to a significant number of forced generation outages combined with potential record electric use for the month of June.
Oncor is echoing this call for conservation in its role as the transmission and distribution company, or the poles and wires company that delivers electricity to many Texans. Oncor does not own or operate power generation facilities, or sell, purchase or offer electricity retail services. ....
