I have been writing a lot about recovery and have also featured some entrepreneurs and homepreneurs in previous columns.
Having said that, I would first like to share my thoughts on entrepreneurship which may be different from that of others.
In my opinion, entrepreneurship means starting, sustaining, and growing a profit or non-profit organization. Entrepreneurs are stewards of enterprises, exercising leadership to steer it through terrain both smooth and rough to meet objectives. One needs to look at the experiences of others whose enterprises survived various crises. A certain strength and tenacity is needed to sustain and keep a business growing against the odds. ....

JOHN Henry R. Osmeña, a seasoned former senator who fought the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos in the 1970s, has died. He was 86.
He died at 2:45 pm on Tuesday inside his condominium in Cebu City and was immediately cremated, Ferliza C. Contratista, a former staff, said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, citing the lawmaker’s sister Annie Osmeña-Aboitiz.
Mr. Osmena authored landmark bills such as the Electric Power Crisis Act and the Build Operate Law. He was also responsible for the creation of the Department of Energy (DOE) in 1992 and pushed electricity reforms through a law that restructured the sector in 2001. ....

With Gajendra Haldea’s demise, a former 1973 batch IAS officer, on January 15 at the age of 71, the country has lost a selfless infrastructure expert who was entirely devoted to infrastructure projects and its implementation in the recent decades.
From saving thousands of crores for the central exchequer through his astute advice on rejecting the one-sided contracts proposed by foreign power producers such as Enron to being the architect of the institutional and policy framework on infrastructure besides the standardised model documents for attracting private participation in infrastructure projects, Haldea’s contribution was immense and noteworthy. ....

Bulawayo Residents Seek Answers Over Tender Allocations To Develop Housing Stands

THE Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) has written to its local council demanding details and background on the three local contractors who have been awarded lucrative tenders to develop residential stands in the city.
According to latest council minutes, the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has awarded three local contractors, Heavenview Properties, Veluntina Investments and Cabinlock Construction tenders to develop 2 400 housing stands in Emganwini suburb.
The three contractors are expected to develop the stands before selling them to prospective home owners.
However, the BPRA has written to the BCC town clerk, Christopher Dube seeking clarification on the criteria used to award the tenders to the three companies. ....
