WOMEN will take to the streets across Turkey on Monday in a firm stand against “patriarchal state violence,” with jailed political leaders calling for international networks of solidarity to be built. Former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Figen Yuksekdag sent her “heartfelt and passionate greetings and love” to all of those protesting against war, discrimination and violence. Ms Yuksekdag, founder of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), has been in jail since November 2016 and faces the rest of her life behind bars on trumped-up terrorism charges. She is seen as a threat to the Turkish state because, as an ethnic Turk, she represents a bridge between the Turkish and Kurdish communities, whose unity is feared by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. ....
AS ANTI-GOVERNMENT protests continue to grow, revolutionary forces in Turkey warned today of the state’s attempts to break the backbone of their resistance. Sixty-five people were detained in Istanbul last week after a press conference announcing the launch of a new opposition alliance, the United Fighting Forces (BMG). Many of those hauled into custody will appear in court tomorrow. There have been allegations of torture during their four days of interrogation by security services. The new alliance, which includes the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Partizan, the Revolutionary Party and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), has been hailed as a major step in uniting Turkey’s revolutionary forces against state oppression. ....

In a statement HDP said members of its women’s council had been detained as they made their way to a meeting in Ankara by a group calling themselves as “the invisibles,” the name used by a group who kidnapped and tortured Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) activist Gokhan Gunes earlier this month. “Our friends, who were subjected to pressure, threats and blackmail during their detention, were warned to leave Ankara as soon as possible. ....
TURKEY’S opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) will launch a new campaign next week aimed at countering attempts to close the party down in a “dirty war” being waged by the state. The party’s youngest parliamentary representative Dersim Dag explained that a series of activities will be focused on four main themes: the isolation of jailed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan; the hunger strikes being waged in more than 100 Turkish jails; the so-called Kobane trial, in which 108 senior HDP figures face prison; and the recent European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling that former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtas should be released. ....
