Free tote bags for Lewisham shoppers aim to kickstart high street after lockdown

Free tote bags for Lewisham shoppers aim to kickstart high street after lockdown
Lewisham has the highest percentage of micro businesses in London (and of all UK boroughs).
Shoppers in Lewisham are being given free tote bags in a bid to encourage them to shop locally after a year of lockdowns.
The project, funded by Lewisham council to support local businesses as restrictions ease, will extend COVID-19 business grants and continue the ‘Shop Safe, Shop Local’ incentive by giving out free exclusive tote bags to shoppers who choose small local businesses over big name brands.
Paula Segre, Lewisham Local Business Coordinator, said: “With the high street coming back to life, Lewisham Local businesses have shown great adaptability, and we urge shoppers to do the same. It is a time when thinking about where and how we shop is not only a responsibility, but a necessity. Shopping local is the easiest and most effective way to allow our communities to flourish in a va ....

Kingston and Epsom prepare for new ease in Covid lockdown

Authorities and businesses in Kingston and Epsom are making final preparations ahead of the latest easing of coronavirus restrictions on Monday, April 12.
Both Kingston Council (RBK) and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council (EEBC) issued advice and guidance for residents ahead of the upcoming reopening, while shops in both boroughs readied themselves to welcome customers back again after months of lockdown imposed to help suppress the spread of Covid-19.
In line with their roadmap of gradually reopening the UK economy in a way that minimises the risk of another wave of Covid infections, the government have said that non-essential retail and business including clothes shops and salons can reopen on Monday, while pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve food outdoors once more. ....

Brent business can reopen on April 12

Mal Preedy, the landlord of The Greenman Pub and Hotel, is also looking forward to reopening and is taking bookings for tables in the garden at the top of Wembley Hill in Wembley.
“We are getting quite a lot of bookings, especially for the first week,” Mal said. “We have run out of money and need to reopen.”
The Greenman Pub and Hotel has a large outdoor area, and Mal is confident that they won’t run out of space. “We have got plenty of room outside,” he said. “Because we are shut, I have changed the phone number on the website to my number so people can call me directly and make a booking.”  ....
